orchid

1)  Good morning.  Pretty flower.  Need coffee…

*zombie-walks to kitchen*

2)  This whole morning thing might be easier today if this beautiful breakfast of sweet-tooth champions were awaiting me.  Ugh, there aren’t even words.  Pre-coffee me just wants to face-plant into that glaze. Holy. Yum.

3)  In an attempt to wake myself up faster, I’m going to find something to get excited about…

New Alexander Hawthorne Upcoming Episode Preview! YES.

You can watch the new teaser trailer for Episode 2: “Bends at the Elbow” here.

My commentary is you’re curious:  “Hmm…that green-glowing eye thing doesn’t bode too well for poor Alex…”

3)  Oh and another thing to get excited about:

Thursday! Thursday! Thursday!

The season finale of ‘Hannibal’ is on this Thursday!  I can’t even handle it.  Who else watches this show?  Oh and if you don’t… why not?!

I don’t want to spoil anything but if there’s anyone out there in the internet who wants to gab about the show with me, I’d totally welcome that opportunity.  The last episode ended on a moment so rife with intensity that I suspect the final episode will be fairly stressful to watch…

not to mention particularly stressful for Will Graham…

4)  I love this post and this lady.  She’s just wonderful.

5)  Breakfast, please?  No seriously.  Bourbon syrup on mini buckwheat pancakes?   Oomph.  She even posed the question “Is this still breakfast?”

Sure, it’s breakfast! And oh, how I wish it were my breakfast.

Or brunch I guess – you know – after I stuff my smiling face with some of that cinnamon pull-apart bread mentioned above.

6)  Aaaaand one list item later I’m already thinking about lunch.  But this is so colorful – can you really blame me?  Oh and it’s salad – look at all those vegetables – this just screams Healthy!

…while still screaming Delicious!  A necessary follow-up meal to the breakfast of my dreams that I’m planning…

7)  And maybe some cookies too…yeah, you know – to even things out…

O.K., I’m done.

1)  It’s a hot and steamy summer already and anything cold and/or citrus-flavored sounds generally perfect & refreshing to me right now.  I’m really craving that lavender lemonade from a few weekends ago, but these would be a welcome treat as well.

2)  I saw the title of this post last night and immediately thought of Grease.  In true geeky fashion, I’m foolishly proud that I caught the reference…also her cookies are amazing, almost too pretty/cute to eat…

Almost.

3)  Remember the book series I told you about?  The DAFFODILS Mysteries?  The commemorative bricks mentioned in the novels…they are actually there – in case you get around to reading them and start to wonder – I thought I should let you know.

bricks

4)  This.  The idea of strawberry – rhubarb anything is excessively appealing to me for some reason (oh, right – ’tis the season…).

5)  I had thought I had appeased my need for pie…then I saw this.

I suppose I thought wrong.

6)  Oh…and this…is also basically pie.

I may have a problem.

caramel

7)  The confection above was… well, dangerously delicious and it made me want to make marshmallows again.

8)  I’m so impatient for Thursday night — awaiting the next episode of NBC’s Hannibal…  This is not a common thing for me – I never seem to be able to keep up with any particular show and always seem to be watching seasons long after they’ve been over and released on DVD or to Netflix.  I don’t actually watch a lot of television. Period.  This show has definitely been the exception.

I think my appreciation of the Hannibal films was the perfect priming for my interest — the characters are familiar but portrayed so well in the TV series that I’ve been completely hooked since the pilot episode.  Only two episodes left in the season and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

9)  Would someone please come and make these for me, for breakfast…?

Please?

I promise I’d share.

beachin

1)  Summer storms are imminent in the forecast for today so I’m enjoying the view from last week’s morning bike ride while I sip my coffee.  Not a bad way to start the day, certainly.

2)  I wouldn’t say no to starting the day with these (or these) either…

3)  I’m probably guilty of saying this too often, but how on Earth is it already June?!  I rather feel like May came and went in a colorful blur, but I guess it’s no matter.  I’m certain it will be autumn before I know it – a notion I’m not at all averse to,  since autumn brings with it crisp air, light sweaters, and all things pumpkin…

June may pass me by just as quickly, but at least it promises to be just as colorful.

redrose

4)  9 AM and I’m already drifting into thoughts of lunch…I may need to go to a local produce stand to gather ingredients for this – this salad has my name written all over it.

Mmmm…peaches.

5)  I came across these beauties the other day and they seriously rekindled my cookie-craving.  Ugh, I’ll take ten…(or twenty).

ladybug

6)  I’m a little wary that the only lucky thing about my encounter with the little bug in the photo above is the fact that it didn’t mind posing for it’s Internet debut…

7)  My brain seems to be on vacation without me this morning…maybe plying it with more coffee, a piece of chocolate, and Law & Order reruns will tempt it to return and cooperate…

Such methods have worked in the past.

1)  A spiffy record player (circa 1964) was bestowed upon my fortunate (and ecstatic) brother as a birthday gift a few weeks ago.  He was doubly fortunate in discovering a Sinatra record among the many boxes of new & secondhand records, CDs, and other merchandise at a local music store.

If I close my eyes & listen, I feel as though I’m in a secluded jazz club with Ol’ Blue Eyes crooning about 10 feet in front of me…

Heaven!

2)  My brother’s musical discovery has launched me into a phase of listening to more Sinatra, a lot of Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, & Ella Fitzgerald – and many other wonderful artists besides – leaning toward anything jazz, big-band, &/or swing.  I’ll also turn up the volume for anything Glenn Miller or Cole Porter.  I’ve done this before, and I find that whenever I do, I seem to take a holiday from everything current and rather forget about the last 5 to 7 or so decades of music…

Not a bad phase to go through, in my opinion.

3)  I fixated on these bright and cheery roasted apricots yesterday…and while I concede they would make a delightful breakfast, I can’t seem to get it out of my head that they’d taste divine with vanilla ice cream.  Hmm…

yellow and light

4)  Speaking of bright and cheery — yellow nail polish.

It must be summer.

5)  With a gang of fantastic fellow food-enthusiasts, I ventured to a pretty little bakery this weekend where the star confections were impeccably tasty and cute macarons.

I purchased (and relished) the Earl Grey Tea flavored one…

To. Die. For.

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at making these beautiful French confections for ages and tasting these led me to believe a certain baking project is in my relatively imminent future…

bon ami

5)  As you can see in the above photos, I enjoyed a cup of Lavender Lemonade (what?!) this weekend…Let me just say it was absolutely amazing and ever since the first sip my mind has been tumbling with ideas on how to create my own.  However, I wouldn’t mind a pouring myself a glass of this Strawberry Mint lemonade either…

6)  Cocktail hour is a long way off from now, but I can’t help ogling these absolutely azure blueberry mojitos… goodness, they’re stunning!  Almost too pretty to drink.

Almost.

7)  If I could be anywhere tonight, it would be sitting around a fire with a few good friends, making s’mores and chatting like the night would never end.  Summer has exploded on the scene in full fiery technicolor and apart from fawning over the bright colored nail polish, the bonkers lemonade flavors, the sunny bike rides, and humming Sinatra’s Summer Wind - I have a strong desire to make marshmallows again…maybe this time with root beer…or caramel liqueur…or bourbon

8)  By the way, the second episode of The Chronicles of Alexander Hawthorne is coming soon to a computer near you, so subscribe!  And if you haven’t yet, watch episode one, because you’re really missing out on something fantastic here.  Seriously. Go. YouTube. Now.

9)  I love a good muffin & I am in muffin-love with these lovelies.  I’ll take one right now, please & thank you.

10)  I recently purchased To Kill A Mockingbird on DVD and I’ve watched it at least 3 times since.  I feel a little sorry for anyone who hasn’t realized the true value of that story as a result of it being high school required reading, because the book is on my list of frequent re-reads and the film is nothing short of amazing.  Ugh, I can’t get over Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch.  His performance and his character are phenomenal.  Not to mention the fact that he’s ridiculously handsome.

Happy Tuesday, kids.
